Criminal Justice System Involvement

The number and share of adults aged 18 and older who report involvement in the criminal justice system. "Personal" involvement includes adults who report spending any amount of time in a juvenile or adult correctional facility, jail, prison, or detention center OR having been under probation or parole supervision. "Familial" involvement includes adults who report that an immediate family member such as a spouse or partner, child, sibling, or parent has spent time in any of these facilities or conditions.
